Known as the Eye of Bamako, photographer Malick Sidibé is known for images of daily life and culture in the Malian capital in the 1960s. The present portfolio comprises some of his best known works, which capture Bamako life in dance hall, night clubs, beaches, and his own photo studio.

The late Malick Sidibé (Malian, 1936–2016) became the first African and the first photographer to be awarded the Golden Lion Award for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Biennale in 2007. During his lifetime, he was also a recipient of an Infinity Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Center of Photography. His photographs are included in the permanent collections of The Museum of Modern Art, New York; The J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles; Jean Pigozzi's prestigious private collection of contemporary African art; among others.
