Note: This was made as a poster for the Peace Congress in Stockholm, 16/22nd July 1958. A Limited edition on better quality paper "avant les letters" was also made of which this present is an example. The prototype for the work is to be found in Zervos, volume XVIII, number 55. This was after a colour drawing made by Picasso. The artist was heavily involved in the Peace Movement in the aftermath of the second world war and quite a number of his works, including this one, were devoted to this subject. Picasso, indeed, became a member of the Communist Party as part of this process - a measure which precluded him ever to travel in America.
